Born and raised in Portland, Oregon, Ms. Barrett has practiced law in Oregon since 1976. She is recognized as a leading thinker in the areas of elder law, special needs planning and same sex couple planning, helping to train other lawyers in the Northwest and around the country.
She served as the President of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA) and the Multnomah County Bar Association. She is a current member of NAELA, the Association of Special Needs Planners (ASNP), OGLAA, and is a certified Elder-Friendly business.
Ms. Barrett is a graduate of Grant High School (1967), University of Pennsylvania (1970), and Lewis & Clark Law School (1976).
Her book, Oregon Domestic Partner Planning, will be published by Stevens Ness Publishing Company in 2010.
