This course will introduce the student to the emerging
practice area of elder law and the issues of:
- Health Care Access and Coverage (Private health coverage,
Medicare, Medicaid, Long
- Term Care Insurance)
- Use of the Courts for Protection from Predators (Elder Abuse,
Guardianship and Conservatorship)
- Planning for the Disability of Loved Ones - Issue Development
and Drafting Suggestions
- including special needs trusts
- Retirement Savings, Pensions and Social Security as Income

Approach
- Effective Life and Estate Planning for Decline, Disability and

Key statutes, cases, and practice resources will be reviewed.
Grades will be based on an examination (70%), class attendance and
participation (20%), and one brief student presentation (10%).
